This page really shows how well Perkins uses heavy blacks to carry emotion. The room feels dim and weighted, with the shadows doing as much talking as the characters themselves. Julie’s fear and worry come through beautifully. Bruce, by contrast, stands wondering why Julie is getting despondent, then by the end of the page he has that haunted look he gets when he’s already halfway out the door mentally. Julie’s final expression, exquisitely lit, but just enough to catch the hurt beneath the frustration, lands with a quiet punch. It’s a tense, intimate page, and the stark black‑and‑white really lets the emotion breathe!
