This is the original painting published as the cover to the vintage Gothic paperback novel The Embroidered Sunset, written by Joan Aiken in 1970.
The artist, Hector Garrido, had an extremely successful, decades long career and along with Gothic covers such as this one, is also well known for painting book covers for famous series such as Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys and later in life became even more well known for having painted the artwork that appeared on the G.I. Joe toy packaging of the 1980's!
