This is the original painting published as the paperback cover to a reprinting of the classic, vintage novel Beast in View by Margaret Millar in 1974. Hailed as one of the greatest psychological mysteries ever written and winner of the 1956 Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award for Best Novel.

The artist, Hector Garrido, had an extremely successful, decades long career and along with Gothic covers such as this one, is also well known for painting book covers for famous series such as Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys and later in life became even more well known for having painted the artwork that appeared on the G.I. Joe  toy packaging of the 1980's!
