Perkins, Mike - El Cazador: The Ballad of Blackjack Tom #1 Cover!

Back in 2016, Mike Perkins was tasked with relaunching Deathlok a Marvel. The publisher decided they wanted to go a different route and feature a different visual look for the character. With that in mind, Perkins was asked to design new head gear, which he did with fully finished illustrations on the second board you see here at bottom. As with most artists doing design work, Perkins could have simply done looser sketches or perhaps tighter pencil drawings, but ever the consummate pro, he instead chose to show the head gear from 3 different angles, with lively facial expressions and all in fully finished pencils and inks!

The editorial staff also mandated that some sort of head shot be designed to sit above the Deathlok logo on the cover of every issue, so once again Perkins went to town on 3 different ones, in fully rendered and finished pencils and inks, of which one was selected and used, all three of which are shown on the first board at the top.

Beautiful work and it is all published cover art. A true rarity, as design work typically never sees the light of day!
